Sale Objectives:
* Demonstrate the improvement and quality of Hereford Cattle in Kentucky and the surrounding areas
* A consistent outlet for breeders of quality Hereford cattle where their cattle can be grouped in numbers sufficient to garner prices that reward them for producing quality cattle
* Increased consistency and predictability for the buyers of our cattle
* A higher quality product for our consumers
 
Important Dates:
 

* Ownership deadline: August 27, 2011

 

* Tag order deadline: September 14, 2011

* Weaning deadline: September 12, 2011

 

* Vaccination window: July 30 - October 12

 

* Deworming window: After August 25, 2011

 

* Delivery time: Noon October 24th to

Noon October 25th (call the yards to schedule delivery times)

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Consignor and Animal Health Requirements:
 
* Deliver healthy, sound and marketable cattle
 
* Tag each animal with a Kentucky Beef Network EID tag
 
* Be able to verify at least 50% Hereford Influence
 
* Have polled or dehorned and healed cattle (no exceptions)
 
* Weaned and bunk broke at least 45 days
 
*Castorate bulls (knife recommended), must be healed (no exceptions)
 
* Guarantee heifers to be open
  
* Dewormed with the time window
 
* Vaccinate according to standard protocol:
   Four Way Virus Vaccine for IBR, BVD, P13
   and BRSV (first shot can be killed or
   modified live - booster must be modified
   live and administered 14 days before sale
   date)
 
   Clostridial 7 Way (Hemophilus Somnus,
   Blackleg + Somnus is optional). Administer
   one at weaning if Blackleg was given
   previously. Otherwise administer two, one
   at weaning and a boster 14 - 21 days later.
 
* Vaccines must be reported with Manufacture Name, Lot/Serial number, date administered and expiration date.
 
* Use neck area for intramuscular and subcutaneous injections

 

Sale Management:

 

* Consignor fees will be $3.25/head for the CHB ear tag and a $4.00/head consignment fee to the KHA for advertising and promotion

  (the $4 KHA fee does not have to be prepaid and can be deducted from sale bill)

 

* Normal stockyard commission will apply

 

* Cattle will be sorted into 100 pound increment pans for three breed sorts: Hereford, Red Cross, Black Cross

 

* Sale management will review the sorted and graded cattle and may combine some pens to make load lots

 

* All cattle will be graded by Ky. Dept. of Ag. graders and off or #2 cattle will be penned seperately
